Phosphor Bronze acoustic guitar strings were created by D'Addario in 1974 and have become synonymous with warm, bright, and well-balanced acoustic tone.

Phosphor bronze strings are made from a mixture of bronze and a portion of phosphorus. The alloy is typically composed of 90–92% copper and 9.5–7.5% tin. The remainder is phosphorus. The phosphorus makes the strings slightly harder than regular bronze and steel strings. They are also somewhat more resistant to corrosion. The sound of the strings is warmer and smoother than that of 80/20 bronze strings. Phosphor bronze strings are the most popular choice in the acoustic string market.
