It features a built-in eight-channel pattern sequencer for capturing songs and ideas, plus a convenient microphone input with built-in effects for vocalists.

With its intuitive, instant-access layout, the XPS-30 makes it simple to summon great sounds instantly. But if you like to customize things, you can dive deeper and tweak both Patterns and Performance Sets with detailed precision. The front panel includes numerous sliders and knobs at your fingertips for creating Patterns and tweaking sounds while performing, while the rear panel features ports for connecting sustain and expression pedals for greater real-time control.

The XPS-30 is equipped with eight Phrase Pads (two more than the XPS-10), allowing you to supplement your keyboard performances with samples or music files stored on a USB flash drive. Just load the pads with whatever you want—one-shot samples, voices, sound effects, loops, or full music tracks—and trigger them with a quick tap whenever you need them.

When you have an idea for a song or beat, you can easily capture and develop it with the onboard pattern sequencer. The intuitive non-stop operation won't interrupt your creative flow, allowing you to quickly build complete arrangements with multiple sounds. The sequencer is also perfect for enhancing live performances by using pre-made backing tracks and loops made on the fly.

Event keyboardists rely on the sound of acoustic and electric pianos more than any other, and those essential sounds have been further enhanced in the XPS-30 for improved response and tone. In addition, the regional instrument section has been expanded, providing even greater versatility for local performances. The full sound sets from the XPS-10 and JUNO-Di are also included, and the patterns from those keyboards are fully compatible with the XPS-30.

To complement its impressive onboard sound set, the XPS-30 supports internal waveform expansion via USB for unlimited tonal range. Over 1,000 EXP sounds are available for free download via the Roland Axial website, including top-quality collections of acoustic pianos, ethnic instruments from around the world, classic studio standards, percussion, loops, and more. If you don't find what you need there, you can even load WAV sounds from your personal sound library to play from the keyboard. Right out of the box, the XPS-30 comes preloaded with the versatile EXP-06 Studio Collection gallery in the expansion bay.

If you're a solo performer or a singer/songwriter, you'll love the microphone input, which allows you to get great vocal sounds without having to carry around extra gear. It features dedicated reverb effects for vocals, plus Auto Pitch for singing with the popular "stepped" vocal effect found in many modern songs. The built-in Vocoder is also fun, allowing you to sing into a microphone and control the pitch and timbre via the sounds played on the keyboard.

The XPS-30 isn't just great on stage—it works great for computer music production, too. The built-in USB interface provides a solid foundation for mobile or studio recording setups, enabling the recording of audio and MIDI data, including sounds from the microphone input.
