The new philosophy of the HS series studio monitors
When selecting studio reference monitors for mixing and music production, one consideration trumps all others: accuracy.

When selecting studio reference monitors for mixing and music production, one consideration trumps all others: accuracy. Beginning with the legendary NS-10M model and continuing with the MSP and previous HS series, this new line shares a design philosophy that emphasizes sonic purity, without coloring or altering the original sound. While many manufacturers strive to enhance their monitors to make them sound spectacular, Yamaha studio monitors were designed to achieve the best possible mix, ensuring that the sound emanating from the speakers is faithful to the original. The HS series nearfield reference monitors embody this philosophy, offering concise sonic imaging, as well as high resolution and flat response.

    Newly created transducers
The HS Series features newly developed transducers that deliver incredibly accurate response across a wide bandwidth. These transducers utilize an advanced magnetic field design that regulates the flow of magnetic response, achieving extremely natural sonic transitions. The materials and design of each component have been repeatedly examined until they are perfectly optimized, significantly improving the accuracy of signal reproduction across the entire audio spectrum. - Tweeter The HS Series features a newly developed, high-performance 1-inch dome tweeter, which significantly extends the usable frequency range and achieves high-resolution, high-quality sound. By using a thick waveguide designed to minimize vibrations, the new tweeter delivers smooth, distortion-free treble output up to 30 kHz. - Woofer Thanks to newly designed, highly sensitive woofers using carefully selected magnets, HS Series monitors produce low-distortion sound with rich bass at any volume. All the components of these high-power woofers, including the surround and woofer basket, contribute to creating a powerful bass presence, while also achieving clear and precise midrange.

    High-performance amplifier
The HS Series speakers utilize an amplifier perfectly matched to the transducers in each model. Thanks to its bi-amplification design, with one amplifier dedicated to the woofer and another to the tweeter, this unit guarantees consistently high-resolution sound from each HS Series speaker, with exceptionally flat response across the entire sound spectrum.

    Low resonance box design
The HS Series cabinets were designed to eliminate unwanted resonances and to maximize playback accuracy. The cabinets are constructed from extremely dense, durable MDF with a damped acoustic response, making them ideal for reference monitors. Drawing on over 100 years of experience in Yamaha piano design, the HS Series engineers utilized the traditional three-way miter joint technique. Common to certain architectural designs, this structure firmly anchors the cabinet corners to dramatically increase durability, while eliminating unwanted resonances that can affect the overall sound.

    State-of-the-art noise reduction technology
The design of speaker ports can significantly influence overall sound clarity. Occasionally, a vortex produced at either end of the port can generate vibrations caused by the air inside the port. Using advanced noise reduction technology that incorporates a thorough analysis of the visual representation of sound, Yamaha engineers have been able to control and reduce this vortex. Through this in-depth analysis, we have succeeded in designing this ideal port, achieving an audible noise reduction of up to 6 dB. The use of this cutting-edge technology allows the HS series studio monitors to meet the demands of the most demanding professional production environments.

    Controls and connectivity

    Flexible configuration (HS-I only)
Adding mounting points to the HS series, the HS I models are compatible with three optional bracket types (wall, ceiling, and pole), adding the flexibility to adapt to a wide variety of environments.

    HS MP (paired units)
2019 marked the 50th anniversary of the PA Division's founding, and we conceived the idea of producing a special HS Series model that would allow Yamaha's engineers to truly shine. The HS Series embodies Yamaha's long-standing design philosophy for its studio monitors, and now includes exclusive paired-unit models utilizing specially selected parts.

This series of paired models is called HP (Matched Pair), and each unit bears an MP label on the back. Produced at the same time and with matching serial numbers, Yamaha offers the HS MP as special 50th anniversary models. We're confident that this special pair of stereo monitors will play an invaluable role in your recording, mixing, and mastering projects.
