The MODX6+ uses the same technology that powers the iconic MONTAGE: 128-note polyphonic AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) sampling and synthesis that produce stunning acoustic instruments, synth sounds, and drums. The MODX6+ also has 128-note polyphonic FM-X (Frequency Modulation), a uniquely expressive, highly programmable synthesis technology for creating dynamic modern electronic music.

The AWM2 engine is unique to Yamaha synthesizers and offers much more than just sample playback. Each of AWM2's 16 parts features eight programmable synthesizers with 18 different filter types, amplitude, pitch, and envelope filter generators, nine LFOs, 3-band EQ, and a dedicated dual insert effect with Virtual Circuit Modeling.

Everything you love about the iconic DX7 comes together with Yamaha’s latest innovations. The FM-X produces classic 80s sounds or cutting-edge EDM synth sounds with incredible dynamic range, power, and fidelity. The MODX6+ goes far beyond the capabilities of the original DX7 with an 8-operator FM architecture, 128-note polyphony, many filter types, and more. All with Motion Control for textures to create constantly evolving sounds no one has heard before. Intelligent Mutation enables the morphing of FM-X sounds. Its sophisticated AI algorithm creates an interactive mutation map of up to eight FM-X sounds. You can “play” this map from the touchscreen or use Master Knob to move between two points. The result is an astounding number of interesting and interactive new sounds.
